Chairman of the United Nations Commission of Inquiry on Burundi

Mr. Diene holds a law degree from the University of Caen (France), a Doctorate in public law from the University of Paris and a degree in political science from the Institute of Political Studies from Paris.

He was Director of the Intercultural and Interfaith Dialogue Division at UNESCO, as well as the initiator and Coordinator of the Slave Route project. He was the United Nations Special Rapporteur on contemporary forms of racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance. Doudou Diène has been chairman of the United Nations Commission of Inquiry on Burundi since February 2018.

He is also Rapporteur on the Orientation Council of the Foundation for the Memory of Slavery, President and Member of the Board of the International Coalition of Sites of Conscience, Member of the Scientific Committee of the International Institute of Politique of Civilization of Edgar Morin and Former Member of the International Advisory  Council of Auroville (India).
